Associate Professor of International Law, Faculty of Law, Democritus University of Thrace, Member of the Rodopi Bar.

​

Visiting lecturer at the University of Nottingham (2010) and the University of Pecz (2001). Member of several academic societies, including the British Institute of International & Comparative Law; the American Society of International Law; the European Society of International Law; the International Law Association (member of the board of the Hellenic Branch); the Hellenic Society of International Law & International Relations. ILA, Committee on the Use of Force (2009-present).

Author of three monographs; a Cases and Materials book on the settlement of disputes by the International Court of Justice; co-editor of a textbook on International Law and author of several articles and chapters in books.

His research interests lie mainly in the use of force, collective security, and the settlement of disputes, statehood and self-determination.

Deputy Director: Dr. Ioannis Ktistakis

Ioannis (Yannis) Ktistakis is a Greek Supreme Courts attorney-at-law, Associate Professor of Public International Law and International Human Rights Law at the Faculty of Law, Democritus University of Thrace, Komotini (Greece) and substitute Member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. 

​

Prior to that, he was Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, BoÄŸaziçi (Bosphorus) University, Istanbul (Turkey), Lecturer at the Greek National School for the Judiciary as well as Legal Consultant to the Greek National Commission for Human Rights and the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights. 

​

Former memberships include the Executive Board of European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Intolerance (EU), the Greek Equal Treatment Committee and the Greek National Commission for Human Rights. 

​

He has over 62 publications (in Greek, English and French) on issues related to environmental law, religious freedom, immigration law, procedures before international courts, and the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights and the European Committee of Social Rights.

Kyriaki Agoraki was born on the 27th of April 1985 in Xanthi, Greece. She holds an LL.B. and an LL.M.in Public International Law from the Democritus University of Thrace. She did her LL.M. thesis in Extraterritorial Application of Human Rights Treaties under the supervision of Associate ProfessorDr Konstantinos Antonopoulos. She is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Law of the Democritus University of Thrace and her research focuses on the Interaction between International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law in non - international armed conflicts.

​

She has been a research fellow at the Laboratory of Forensic Sciences of the Sector of Penal and Criminal Sciences at the Faculty of Law of the Democritus University of Thrace and now she is a research fellow at the Krateros Ioannou, Research Institute for International Law & International Relations in the same university. 

​

She is also attorney at law, member of the Rodopi Bar Association, practicing in the field of civil and administrative law. Since 2014, Kyriaki is working for the Special Account For Research Funds of the Democritus University of Thrace by project contract, providing legal support and advice.
